SPN machines various plastics. One of the techniques used in the design of parts is milling. It allows us to obtain parts with no axis of revolution. Milling is used to fix a plastic block in a vice or a mounting on a milling table. Excess material is then removed using a rotating cutting tool such as a milling cutter, a drill or a drill bit. The removal of material allows the creation of ribs according to the customer’s requirements. SPN masters various types of milling. For simple parts, conventional milling is more suitable. The design of more complex parts requires the use of 5-axis CNC milling for complex plastics. SPN chooses one of these techniques for FEP milling.
FEP or fluorinated ethylene propylene is obtained from a polarized mixture of hexafluoropropylene and tetrafluoroethylene. Compared to other fluorinated plastics, FEP is less resistant to traction, creep or wear. However, it has good chemical resistance and a low dielectric constant. It has a low coefficient of friction and is resistant to stress cracking. Its ability to retain its mechanical properties for use in extreme temperatures ranging from -270 °C to 240 °C is highly appreciated.
FEP is mainly used in the manufacture of equipment and piping systems due to its UV resistance and moisture absorption of less than 0.01%. Its specific characteristics and performance make this material an effective protection for cables in aeronautics. FEP is also used in the design of parts requiring a perfect seal, such as joints.
