PES Turning
PES Turning
Turning operations of plastic components are one of the activities for which SPN is renowned. The company is therefore equipped with several high-performance machine tools. The SPN team carries out, among other things, PES turning. The workpiece is rotated by means of a chuck. A turret equipped with a cutting tool is then used to remove unnecessary material. SPN is also able to process other high-performance plastics such as PEEK, PTFE and FEP.
PES or polyethersulfone belongs to a family of sulfide thermoplastics. It has good dimensional stability and can withstand high temperatures perfectly. PES remains stable even at temperatures up to 180 °C. It withstands a tensile force of 76N/mm² at this temperature. It also retains its characteristics, especially its electrical properties even at very low temperatures down to -100 °C. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is also relatively low. PES is shock and creep resistant. PES is sensitive to UV radiation, but is resistant to beta X-rays and has excellent chemical resistance. It is an effective electrical insulator and has an attractive dielectric constant.
Thanks to its characteristics, polyethersulfone is used in the manufacture of mechanical parts, such as casings, pumps or valves. It is also used in the medical industry because of its compatibility with chemicals and its good hydrolysis resistance. The control plates of dialysis machines, for example, are made of PES. It is also used in the design of certain electrical devices such as taps, hot water dispensers and filtration systems.
