PEI Turning
PEI Turning
SPN specializes in the various techniques for machining plastic materials. The company has high-performance equipment allowing the realization of these operations. SPN carries out, among others, PEI turning. Like the turning of all plastic components, PEI turning is carried out using digital and conventional lathes according to customer requirements. The operation consists of machining the PEI and rotating it using a chuck. A turret then removes the unnecessary material with a cutting tool. The precision of the operation depends on the dimensions of the material, among other things.
PEI or polyetherimide is a rigid and resistant material. This thermoplastic with outstanding thermal, mechanical and electrical properties has similar qualities to polyarysulfones. Resistant to high temperature creep, PEI can be processed at high temperatures. It can withstand a tensile force of around 40N/mm². Its flexural modulus of elasticity in flexion reaches 2300N/mm². Polyetherimide remains unchanged in contact with hydrocarbons. However, it is not inert to halocarbons such as trichloroethane and methylene chloride.
The characteristics of PEI make it suitable for specific uses. It is very much in demand in the field of medical imaging, particularly in the design of equipment. This material is also used in the manufacture of parts used in the chemical and industrial sector, but also in electronics and aeronautics. PEI is indeed an excellent frequency insulator. It is also resistant to high-energy radiation.
