PTFE milling
SPN has made plastic machining its specialty. Among the operations the company offers is milling. It is used to manufacture certain parts that do not have an axis of revolution. Milling consists of using a fixture or vice to fix a blank on a dedicated table and then removing the material with a cutting tool such as a drill, a lathe or a milling cutter. The process results in a part with dimensions corresponding to the customer’s specifications. SPN carries out many types of milling. Conventional milling is carried out for simple components and 5-axis CNC milling for more complex parts. SPN offers PTFE milling and milling of all plastic materials.
Better known under its commercial name – Teflon® -, natural PTFE is obtained from tetrafluoroethylene. This fluoropolymer is used for the production of parts requiring excellent chemical stability and a wide range of temperature resistance. This plastic remains unchanged between -80 °C to 250 °C. It is also a non-toxic and non-flammable material. It is also insensitive to UV rays. Moisture does not affect it.
PTFE can be filled to improve its specific properties. For example, PTFE filled with glass fibre is more resistant to wear and tear. Filled with carbon, this plastic has optimal thermal conductivity. Bronze filled PTFE is resistant to compression and wear. If it is graphite-filled, it has a very low coefficient of friction.
